We offer a wide range of adventure activities for individuals, schools, youth groups and organisations.  All activities can typically be booked for a 3-hour session with some available as a full day adventure. We tailor activities to your groups age, ability and experience.  All the adventure activities on this page are also available as part of a residential programme.  Prices on this page are our standard rates for the general public.  We offer discount rates for educational, youth and voluntary organisations – see our booking page for full details.

Walks - Yorkshire Dales

Ever wanted to explore the beautiful Yorkshire Dales but not sure where to start or how to find your way? Our Instructors can guide you on walks in the Yorkshire Dales. We will take you to some of the best places with amazing views and accessible routes.

  • The Reeth Round: starting and finishing in the beautiful village of Reeth, we can take you to 2 or 3 great viewpoints with a chance to see some of the best views in Yorkshire. Default meeting place – Marrick Priory.
  • Lead Mining Heritage Walk: find out more about the amazing lead mining heritage of Swaledale. Default meeting place – Marrick Priory.
  • Shunner Fell: an opportunity to get to one of the high points of the Pennine Way and take in the amazing views of the Backbone of Britain. Default meeting place – Marrick Priory.
  • Exploring Wensleydale: walks around some of the most scenic parts of Wallace and Grommit country! It could involve an ascent of Pen Hill or a visit to the famous waterfalls at Aysgarth. If you have time you could always finish with some Wensleydale Cheese at Hawes Creamery. Default meeting place – The Leyburn Bolton Arms.
  • Bespoke Location: you can also request a location anywhere in the Yorkshire Dales to suit you.  Prices and duration on request.

We have a fantastic High Ropes Course designed to challenge you and get the adrenalin going.

We have a fantastic High Ropes Course designed to challenge you and get the adrenalin going.  Why not get a small group together and come and have a go.  

It is great for teamwork and problem solving and you will be amazed by just what you can achieve. 

We will provide you with the best kit and you will always have a rope above you so you can try some new challenges whilst remaining safe.  Once you have achieved the goal you set for yourself we can lower you safely back to the ground to share your experience with your team members.

This activity can be combined with another onsite activity such as Climbing, Abseiling, Orienteering or Archery for a half day or full day booking.  To do so, please make a request here and we’ll be happy to help. 

Caving with Marrick Priory Outdoor Adventure Activity Centre - Yorkshire Dales, North Yorkshire

Caving

If you want a real adventure activity, why not try Caving. The Yorkshire Dales has some of the best caves in the UK.

If you want a real adventure, why not try a Caving trip.  The Yorkshire Dales has some of the best caves in the UK and there is a huge variety to choose from.  It is an opportunity to visit hidden worlds that not many people get to see.

It is not all about crawling and getting wet.  We can take you to caves where you just walk in and there isn’t even any kneeling!  You could visit some huge underground caverns and walk down big roomy passages with fantastic geological features.

We can run caving trips in Swaledale, in the Northern Dales or down in the Southern Dales not far from Ingleton.

It is great for families, team building, work colleagues and groups of friends, so why not give it a go and discover more about the natural world.

Raft Building

Raft Building is a great team activity for families, friends or colleagues. Build your raft then launch it.

If you love being outside and near water then Raft Building could be the next thing for you.  It is a great adventure activity for families, friends or colleagues.

We provide all the kit and show you a few top tips to construct a raft that will keep you afloat. Working together we will get this thing built in a jiffy and get you all on the water!

Now, the second part of the adventure starts, learn how to move your raft around, practice some skills, try a game and maybe even fall in! No problem, you will be wearing a buoyancy aid and if your friends cannot get back on the raft we will be close at hand to help.

Open Canoeing

Open canoeing is an easy way to get out on the water. Brilliant for seeing wildlife, exploring and team work.

Open canoeing is one of the quickest and best ways of getting out there on the water. It is a brilliant way of seeing wildlife, exploring a new place and having a great time with your companions.  

We have a fleet of modern, purpose made canoes that have 2 or 3 seats, so they are great for friends and families to get together. Our boats are stable, roomy and easy to paddle.  If anyone in your party wants that extra bit of security, no problem, we can connect 2 boats together to form a very stable raft. 

It doesn’t matter if you have never been in a boat before or if you are a seasoned enthusiast, we will encourage you out on the water and help you develop your skills along the way.

Have the freedom to paddle your own kayak, learn the basics then let the games begin.

If you want to paddle your own little boat then kayaking could be for you. Kayaking comes from the Inuit Eskimo people and it was essential for hunting and fishing.  

Our modern boats are lightweight, plastic and highly manoeuvrable but still have many of the traditional similarities.  We have a wide variety of sizes to suit children and adults.  You will have a double ended paddle and you will be surprised by how quickly you can pick up speed. 

If you are new to kayaking we recommend starting in the shallows of some still water, we have an ideal lake location for you.  Once you feel more confident you have the choice of a short journey, some games and you might even want to get really wet!

Archery is fantastic for all ages and skill levels. Learn some key techniques then let the games begin.

Archery is a fantastic activity for all ages and skill levels.  It is great for both adults, children, families and groups of friends.    

You don’t need any prior experience and you will be surprised by how much you can improve in a short space of time with some expert coaching from our staff. 

We will introduce you to some key techniques to get you started and then we can try out some different games and some friendly competition. 

We have our own purpose built archery range with beautiful views over the River Swale.  You can book a half day archery session or combine it with another on site activity such as climbing or High Ropes for a half day or full day session.  Why not come and have a go.

Rock Climbing at Marrick Priory - outdoor adventure activities in the Yorkshire Dales

Some superb places with fantastic views and beautiful settings. This is traditional climbing at its best.

If you want to get onto real rock then there is loads to go at.  Before indoor climbing walls came along, this was how everyone started!

We can introduce you to some of the best locations across Yorkshire and the Lake District. Some superb places with fantastic views and beautiful settings. This is traditional climbing at its best and you will be following in the footsteps of some of the UK’s most famous climbers. 

We will introduce you to some of the techniques needed to overcome the natural challenges and share with you the secrets of how to do this adventurous activity safely.

If you have never had a go at climbing why not give it a try.  It is one of the fastest growing sports in the UK. 

We have a purpose made outdoor climbing wall and expert coaching that will get you started.  Our wall is 10m high and it located in a sheltered sunny location. There are some great warm up routes with lots of big holds and once you are ready you can set your own personal challenge. You might want to go a bit higher, try something a bit steeper or just use one set of coloured holds.  The choice is yours and we will provide the safety and support for you to achieve you goal.

We can run a half day or full day session from Swaledale. We will help you get the key skills sorted and show you some of the best tips so you can go home a more confident and competent navigator.

We supply the maps and compasses, you just need to bring your own lunch, water bottle and wear appropriate hill walking clothing.

If you want to explore some of the hills and mountains of the Lake District our experienced instructors can tailor a day to fit your ambitions.  You might want to take on one of the superb lower hills and enjoy great views over the famous lakes.  If you have set your sights on a higher peak, one of the 3,000ft mountains such as perhaps Scafell Pike, Hevellyn or Skiddaw or a famous ridge walk such as the Fairfield or Kentmere Horseshoe. We can lead the way and share our love of the Lakes with you.

Orienteering is a great activity to exercise the brain and body, whilst also experiencing the great outdoors.

If you think you cannot read a map, then think again. Everyone can enjoy searching for our hidden markers and experience the satisfaction of getting better at navigating. 

We have a variety of courses here at Marrick Priory to suit every age and skill level.  It is a great activity to exercise the brain and body at the same time whilst also experiencing the great outdoors.

If you have never done any orienteering before we can quickly teach you some of the key skills and you can try them out on our short course.  When you are ready we can try some longer courses with a little more challenge.

Gorge Scrambling is an amazing experience for groups of friends, colleagues and teenage family groups.

If you want an exciting challenge then gorge scrambling is an amazing experience for groups of friends, colleagues and teenage family groups.
There are lots of fun challenges along the way. Watch your friends try to stay dry as they scramble around the pools. Work together to get up some of the rock steps. You might have to wade or swim through the deep sections and there is always the plunge pool for that refreshing dunk!

Alongside the adrenalin, you will also see how the water has created some amazing features and how beautiful plants have colonised the gorge to leave us with a special place to respect and protect for future generations.

It is fun to re-connect with the natural world. Build your shelter, try traditional fire lighting and prepare food & drink.

This is a great activity for families and friends who want to experience the great outdoors and try some creative activities. 

Building shelters and cooking outdoors is something we humans have been doing for thousands of years!  It is fun to re-connect with the natural world and learn the skills of people who lived in harmony with nature before the modern age.   

We will help you choose a location for your shelter and forage for materials to make a natural shelter. When you are ready we can try out some traditional fire lighting and then prepare something to eat and drink around the fire.

We provide you with all the safety equipment and you will have a back-up rope to always keep you safe if it all gets a little too exciting!

One of our most popular activities for school children - build confidence and improve your balance and agility.

One of our most popular activities for school children to build their confidence and improve their balance and agility.

We like you to work in pairs so you can support and encourage each other through the different challenges. So stick on your helmet, look your partner in the eye and then decide who is going first.  There are challenges to get over, go under, balance along and swing from. 

We will introduce to our wild woozy, tarzan swing cargo net and tunnels and you will be surprised by just what you can achieve.
